The golf industry is composed of multiple components. Each working harmoniously to achieve the same goal, to better the game of golf and to create a thriving environment for everything and everyone in the golfing world.
Within these groups that encompass the golf industry, there are a few unsung heroes of golf. I want to take this time to thank them all for what they do. A few of these unsung heroes are the volunteers, coaches, outside staff and the superintendents. Seldom are they given thanks for what they do every day for golf. It's these people that really keep golf going behind the scene.
Volunteers: Volunteers play a bigger role than one would think in the golfing world. They are typically in charge of manning the starting tee box or helping with outside services. In a tournament setting they are often involved with being spotters, being scoring officials, registration aids and maintaining practice facilities before and after each round of the tournament.
Coaches: Regardless of who they coach, it is because of their knowledge in the game of golf coaches all over the country and world has saved kids over the years. It's as simple, but extremely crucial that with the game of golf, their encouragement and support, they have saved kids by giving them direction. With golf they fell into the passion and enjoyment that comes with playing this game. Something anyone who plays golf understands, it's the bug you can't quite shake when it bites.
Outside staff: Day in and day out they are constantly working to maintain all play on the course. While unappreciated, the outside service staff does so much to make sure everything is where it needs to be and maintain the flow of the course as well as the practice facilities. From setting up the carts everyone morning, washing, charging carts, picking up golf balls on the driving range, greeting golfers and tackling any needs they may need, thank you for always making sure these tasks run smoothly for the golf facility as well as every golfer playing and practicing.
Superintendents: I know it might sound silly to think that superintendents are mentioned often in the golf world, but seldom do they receive thanks for all their hard work. This is no easy task. Every day is managing the entire golf course. Managing the tee boxes, fairways, rough, bunkers, greens, and everything in between, this is all under their responsibility. Golfers may be quick to judge the golf course, but superintendents always do their best, they always put more and do more with less, especially in this economy today they go above and beyond.
We thank you for all that you do, thank you for bettering the game of golf. You are truly appreciated.
